Playing with the new hair!

I have been playing around with ways to style my new hair.

I did a style where it was lightly curled. Just enough to give it body and have it look a little fun. This is the first time I wore my bangs side swept and I like it a lot.

A little note, I look great with high-necked tops now. The short hairstyle gives my wardrobe a completely new look, which is great!

This is one where it’s completely straight and blunt. I didn’t even turn it under at the tips. I wore it with a tux shirt, mini skirt and wide belt. The look was great although the picture turned out crappy.

This is the first time I really played with doing a masculine look and I like it a lot.

Out for a picnic! Tight spiral curls everywhere! This took me a full hour. Which is ridiculous considering how short the hair is. Next time I’m going to do leave-in rollers. However, it looked great and Ansell loved it. I definitely want to do it again but leave it overnight with more product. The curls dropped and by the end of the day it looked like the first picture in this blog.

Again, I feel like the hairstyle gives my wardrobe new life and makes everything a little more edgy.

PS Check out those shoes. I love them.

Annnnnnnd Ansell, who always looks great. He made us a fantastic pasta salad for lunch and we had a picnic at the Georgetown Waterfront. Ansell is my number 1 inspiration for wardrobe style right now. He ALWAYS looks fashionable and classic but definitely has his own personal look.

I’m hoping to do some more styles with my hair in terms of braids and other fun. For now, I’m enjoying how light and easy it is!

Art Festival in Old Town

Last Sunday while Ansell while out getting drunk with his college program on a winery tour I was enjoying the big Art Festival in Old Town.

I started the day off with brunch at my new favorite brunch place Bread & Chocolate. For $15 you get tea or coffee, juice, a breakfast entree, and a little basket of baked treats from their bakery. I really love the omelette there. It's delish!

The Art Festival was huge and extended several blocks down King St and traffic was blocked off. They had various different artists but I was only impressed/interested in about 5 of them.

However, I was really glad that we get to have events like this and throughly enjoyed myself!

By the way, I looked fab with slicked back hair, a fedora, and red lips (although mostly worn off after brunch). :)

Meow-Summer Spirits, Rainforest, Spirit of Summer

Meow Cosmetics
Summer Spirits, Rainforest, Spirit of Summer

I arranged these by color rather than collection so you could see the differences between the colors better.

In bright sunlight

Summer Spirits - Mint Julep: Awesome minty/seafoam, shimmery, pastel green with hints of lime.

Summer Spirits - Teal Tini: Arika said I HAD to get this, and indeed I did. I wasn’t actually impressed with the color on the website but I love actually love it. It’s a really fresh bright teal.

Rainforest - Tropical: A bright lime color. SO summery! This is actually what I thought Starfruit from the Carribean collection was going to be and totally wasn’t.

In medium light

Rainforest - Bromeliad: Wow, this is pink. It’s a bright pink with some peachy undertone. I’m not sure if I can actually wear this but I will try!

Joys of Summer - Beach Bonfire: I liked how this color looked on Arika’s blog so I got a sample. It’s a deep burnt orange. I’m really interested in trying this out as a liner.

Summer Spirits - Jungle juice: Another very bright pink that almost verges into peach/orange but pulls back at the last second. It’s a fun color but I’m not sure how it will look on.

Rainforest - Torch: A delicious bright blend of orange and peach. It’s a less deep version of Beach Bonfire and much brighter.

With Flash

Rainforest - Macaw: A standard bright, pure, yellow. Good staple to have.

Summer Spirits - Caribou Lou: Another standard pastel, soft yellow.

Free Samples
Pandora’s Box-Depravity: Really love this sample! It’s a deep rich, plum. Would make a fantastic dramatic smoky eye.

End of Days-Nibiru: Looove this color! A soft peachy that is so pretty and reminds me of peach macaroons. I can’t wait to use this. It also blends down soft and delicate.
I’m seriously considering getting a full size of this.

Alexandria Farmer's Market

I woke up early last Saturday and decided to hit the local Farmer’s Market before work.

The farmer’s market in Alexandria is, of course, super cute. It takes place at the back of the Alexandria City Hall where there is a community area and large fountain/pool.

The farmer’s market has produce, flowers, artists, and other food stalls. I got decked out in my summer gear complete with big hat, large sunglasses, light cardigan, and cotton dress.

It was already 90 degrees at 8:00 that morning and the sun was pretty harsh. So, I was happy to have a light cardigan and hat to protect my skin from the sun.

Here is my favorite produce stall and I got some giant tomatoes, a squash, a zucchini, giant peaches, apples, cherry tomatoes, and a big watermelon.

I also got local yogurt from a yogurt and cheese stall.

Until Ansell comes back (August 13th evening!) I will be going on a diet. No meat, one cooked meal a day, fresh fruits and veggies the rest of my meals, and only fruits, veggies, and some yogurt with limited grains.

I also got a heavy-duty antioxidant green tea that I’ll have daily and bolster the whole diet with V8 and LOTS of water.

So far, I’m really enjoying it! It’s kind of a relief to know that you can only have these certain types of food and all you have to do it slice it up and eat up. The produce itself is so delicious that it only takes a touch of seasoning. :)

One of the best things about going to a Farmer's Market is that you are supporting local business. It is more expensive but you don't have to do ALL your grocery shopping there. Get some of your favorite produce from a Farmer's Market and supplement it with Trader Joes. Either way you're supporting local produce!

Bon Appétit!

New Summer Clothes

Thanks to the local Gap Outlet having a huge sale I was able to score some great summer clothing. Something I sorely needed to do!

Here they are!

My favorite item is the neon yellow jeans! I really wanted the orange version but they didn't have my sze. However, I'm really happy with the yellow and they fit great!

The navy shirt with orange and white stripes is very lightweight and is a superb addition to my wardrobe.

I have been needing new shorts so BAD! I'm not a huge fan of shorts because they can be so unflattering. However, I was desperate after all the heatwaves!

These coral shorts were perfect. Coral is my favorite color of the season and these shorts are breathable in cotton and super cute!

I bought the same type of shirt as the navy but this time in canary yellow with grey and white stripes.

Also purchased some new dark blue skinny jeans. Love this! They go with basically everything. A fantastic wardrobe staple. Dress it up with a blouse and funky necklace or dress it down with a simple shirt.

Also got a 3/4 sleeve hoodie. It's the perfect weight for cooler summer nights.

Black shorts, the same as coral. Simple black shorts are a must have.

Finally, adorable headband. Yellow and grey striped. Reminds me of Rugby shorts. Very preppy.

Here is the whole haul! Not shown in the above model pictures is the green and white tank.

Notice a theme? Yellow and neons! Love the bright color trends. You can dip your toes into the 70s and 80s without having to go too far.

In total: 1 hoodie, 2 shorts, 2 jeans, 2 shirts, a tank top and a headband.
All for $115!
Which is a great bargain. I never could have afforded all of this without it being a massive sale.

I've never been a fan of Gap but this might make me pop in every now and then if I need a solid wardrobe staple.

By the way, my nails got into the neon action.  :)
